Photographing the event
Volunteering to help MindsEye with special events can mean planning, but also working at the function to take pictures and make sure the event goes well.

Throughout the year we hold special events to raise funds, promote awareness of blindness, and provide opportunities for people who are blind to be active in the community. Annual events include the Ultimate Beepball Tournament (blindfolded baseball for people who are blind and sighted), the Soiree pour la Vue dinner and auction, and dine-out days like Kegs for a Cause.

Volunteers assist with promotion and planning of events and work alongside staff during the event. The time commitment and length of position is subject to the role taken on.

About MindsEye

Mission Statement

MindsEye translates vision into audio.

Description

We're MindsEye and our team of over 200 volunteers fill in the gaps created when people cannot access print or arts and entertainment due to visual impairment.

Volunteers read and record local newspapers, magazines, and books. We send those recordings out over a total of 26 different platforms: radio, Internet, smartphone apps, a call-in phone service, and more. Our listeners are primarily low income individuals who cannot access this information in any other way.

Audio description enhances and complements the work so those who are visually-impaired or blind gain a complete understanding of what is before them. MindsEye’s audio description means that every person who attends a theater production or exhibit, regardless of visual impairment, has the chance to enjoy a rewarding experience. This service transforms the experience for a person with visual-disabilities. It takes it from a potentially confusing and isolating event, to one of full enjoyment.
