About
SAReads is a campaign, coordinated by non-profit Literacy San Antonio Inc., dedicated to making grade-level reading a reality for all students in Bexar County. Our vision is for every student to enter fourth grade as a proficient reader. The SAReads campaign supports teachers, students and families in reaching our goal: to significantly and permanently increase literacy levels in Bexar County.
Literacy Volunteers
Literacy Volunteers work on important projects that help us further our mission. Projects include:
- Preparing curriculum and materials for the SAReads Kinder-3rd grade tutoring program
- Packaging book requests from the SAReads Book Bank
- Preparing books for SAReads students' at-home libraries
- Manage book drive collections
- Data entry
- Event assistance at the Summer Book Drive, Holiday Book Drive and San Antonio Book Festival

Literacy San Antonio, Inc. strives to significantly and permanently raise literacy levels in Bexar County by empowering the community and employing innovations in collaboration, programs and technology. A campaign coordinated by Literacy San Antonio, SAReads is dedicated to making grade-level reading a reality for all students in Bexar County.
Description
SAReads trains, places and monitors volunteers as literacy tutors in public schools in San Antonio. SAReads gives an early-literacy boost to kindergarten through third-grade students with one-on-one tutoring, home libraries, e-Readers and literary events.
The SAReads campaign supports teachers, students and families to achieve the desired result: children entering fourth grade as proficient readers. The SAReads campaign incorporates one-on-one tutoring, a citywide book bank and community mobilization.
SAReads evaluators continue to look at students’ improvements over time, as well as the effectiveness of additional literacy skill-building supports. SAReads develops best practices to support schools and students through an integrated community support model.
