Come and immerse yourself in the sounds of the Oakland Youth Chorus while helping us build community. OYC is looking for volunteers for this year’s Winter Concert, which brings together hundreds of our K-12 singers from across the East Bay in friendship, harmony, and connection. Ushers, box office help, and set-up/clean up volunteers are needed for this event to run smoothly. It takes a village to help our singers shine, so your time and effort is greatly appreciated.
10-16 Ushers:
Help with seating people
Check tickets
Hand out programs
Assist with fundraising ask prior to intermission
Hat Pass: Hat pass volunteers should be stationed at each end of aisle in their sections. One volunteer should be stationed at one end of an aisle and another volunteer should be stationed at the opposite end of the next aisle. When the hat reaches the end of their aisle they should then rotate to the next aisle and send the hat down that aisle. Hats are then given to our Front of House Manager at intermission.

Mission Statement
The Oakland Youth Chorus unites diverse communities and transforms young people’s lives through excellence in music education and community performance.
Description
The Oakland Youth Chorus provides Bay Area students of diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds with a comprehensive TK-12 multicultural music education. OYC participants develop confidence, collaboration and socio-emotional learning skills, respect for diverse peoples and greater understanding of the world’s cultures. They become global citizens and advocates for community change. Music plays a vital role in a young person’s life. Whether or not a young person pursues music as a profession, OYC provides students with fundamental tools and skills to succeed.
OYC provides school day and after school programs at low or no-cost to families. Music education programs and choral training ensembles are located in schools and community sites throughout Oakland, Alameda, Richmond and El Cerrito for children and youth aged 4-19. Our approach combines repertoire from cultures around the world, performance opportunities, and a concrete foundation in music literacy. Students at every level of our programming enjoy opportunities to travel with the Chorus to perform for local schools, organizations and cultural events.
