The McHenry County Historical Society is looking for volunteers interested in preserving local history and can help organize, accession (catalog) and photograph artifacts in the museum's collection, specifically the sheet music collection which dates from the 1880s-1950s.
The accessioning volunteers are trained on how to write up descriptions on artifacts, catalogue artifacts on the museum’s computer database and the proper way to handle and care for the museum’s collection.
The museum is open Monday-Friday from 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m.

Established in 1963, our members, staff, and volunteers have a 60-year-plus record rich in preservation, education, and entertainment contributions to McHenry County.
We create learning experiences and events. We focus on local culture, organization, and family history. We collect and care for notable artifacts. We participate in the activities of like-minded organizations throughout McHenry County.
Besides operating the museum, the Society plaques historic sites and structures, holds adult programs and arranges various school and adult group tours.
