During these uncertain times, how can we help?
See below to access our COVID-19 Resource Hub, and to explore our growing directory of COVID-19-specific and virtual volunteering opportunities.
Heyward House Museum & Welcome Center
Our interior is currently closed but we will be looking for more volunteers once we reopen the house. Docents will need to wear a mask and social distance.
The Heyward House is the first stop for many visitors to Old Town Bluffton! Visitors are excited to learn about the history and what there is to see and do in the Historic District and surrounding area. Heyward House docents provide 45 minute guided tours of the house and grounds upon request. Docents also offer maps, directions, and suggestions for sites to see and where to eat in the local area. Some of our docents also volunteer their time to provide guided walking tours of the historic district. If you enjoy history and meeting new people this is the perfect volunteer opportunity for you! If you would like to learn more, please call us at (843) 757-6293!
No additional volunteer opportunities at this time.

Our mission is to promote, preserve, and protect the Cultural Arts and Historic District of Bluffton and St. Luke's Parish (ca. 1741). The Heyward House Historic Center is operated by the Bluffton Historical Preservation Society. In addition to our 2 historic properties, we also maintain the town archives and serve as the official town welcome center.
There are so many opportunities for every age, skill level, and interest! We would love to have your help with events, house tours, school field trips, house maintenance, and so much more; it is such a rewarding place to work! If you have any interest at all in antebellum homes, Civil War history, architecture, antiques, or more, please contact us!
We'll work with your schedule.
