Become a Friendly Visitor volunteer for an isolated elder in Alameda County. Spend 1-2 hours a week visiting with the senior and enjoy good conversation, laughter, board games, a shared hobby - or go out to lunch, shopping, or appointments. You choose a mutually agreeable day and time so there's a lot of flexibility (i.e. visits can be in the evenings or on the weekend).
During COVID, we transitioned visits to weekly phone calls and this option is still available for those looking for a remote opportunity.
Not the right fit? We have lots of other ways to get involved with LIFE too: deliver Meals on Wheels, drive seniors to the doctor or to get groceries, help with office work & more! Get in touch to learn more.

Description
LIFE ElderCare provides the basics of life - food, friendship, support, and enhanced mobility - to seniors, age 60 and older. Meals On Wheels delivers hot, nutritious meals; Friendly Visitors provides weekly in-home companionship; Assisted Transportation links volunteers with seniors (and non-seniors with disabilities) who need destination assistance; and Fall Prevention offers in-home, personalized services to reduce the risk of falling. For those with more complex needs, we also offer case management and care coordination throughout Alameda County.
