ORGANIZATION: Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of New York

A part time coordinator is needed at our East Harlem food pantry site to conduct the following responsibilities:

Inventory Check:

  • Once a week conduct inventory of the items left at site which includes leftover bags, merchandise and refrigerator content. (Can be done Wednesday afternoon, Thursday anytime and Friday and takes about 30 minutes to complete)

  • Place orders using both the Food Bank website and vendor. (Can be done on Wednesdays or Thursdays and can take up to about 30 minutes to complete)

Volunteer Coordination:

  • Coordinate volunteers who are physically capable of receiving deliveries. This will need to be done once a week. (Can be done on Monday or Tuesday and can take up to 20 minutes to complete)
  • Be available on site to receive delivery, confirm that ordered items have been received and manage volunteers while there (Can be done on Tuesdays with a Delivery window of 4 hours, actual time needed to conduct task depends on size of delivery)
  • Manage volunteers as they pre-pack produce volunteer bags on Tuesdays (completion time will depend on number of volunteers available, 1-2 hours)
  • Confirm availability of volunteers for service days: Wednesdays for approximately three hours depending on number of clients. Can be done on Mondays or Tuesdays and takes about 30 minutes to complete)
  • On day of service delegate responsibilities to volunteers: who will be responsible for which sections as well as conducting Intake. (Altogether this can take approximately 3-4 hours on Wednesday)
  • Meeting with volunteers on a bi-monthly/quarterly basis is recommended. (This takes about 1-2 hours to plan and meeting should take approximately 1-2 hours to conduct)
  • Recruitment and training of local volunteers. Person would need to work with community to make them aware of need. Person could also work with Director of Volunteer Services to look for volunteers. (This is an ongoing need that will take time to complete)

Other Assignments as necessary.

Additional Information: This is a rewarding and fun opportunity in one of our busiest community center in East Harlem. This opportunity will give an individual direct access to clients and other program staff.
