Empower people to buy and make healthy food on a budget! Become a Cooking Matters class assistant at many locations throughout Chicago. Class assistants meet for some or all of the 2-hour weekly classes in a 6-week course.
Class assistants help set up and clean the class space, supervise participants while cooking, participate in nutrition discussions, and prepare take-home groceries. Cooking Matters provides an orientation for new volunteers as well as ongoing support in selecting classes and volunteering throughout Chicago.

Cooking Matters empowers people to make healthy food choices on a budget. We share practical strategies to use in the kitchen and at the store. EverThrive Illinois hosts Cooking Matters programs at community organizations throughout Illinois, primarily in the Chicago area.
Description
Cooking Matters mobilizes volunteers to to lead and support free programs year-round at local community organizations. Cooking Matters courses provide healthy food strategies through facilitated discussions, activities, and hands-on food preparation. Our curricula target kids, teens, adults, families, parents, and child care professionals. Participants make and eat a healthy snack and meal each class. Adults also receive a bag of groceries to practice their skills at home. Cooking Matters at the Store offers interactive food shopping information, either as part of a 6-week class or as a one-time event. These 2-hour sessions at local grocery stores or community centers include price comparisons, label reading, and a healthy meal ideas under $10.
