Children of Promise, NYC (CPNYC) seeks additional members for the Executive Board of Trustees to increase the capacity of its Board of Directors and act responsibly as a steward of the organization’s mission to embrace the children of incarcerated parents and empower them to break the cycle of intergenerational involvement in the criminal justice system. This is a special opportunity to help shape the course of a nonprofit organization management and fund development

Children of Promise, NYC offers an innovative and unique after-school program and summer day camp, the only one of its kind in New York City, specifically designed to meet the needs, interests and concerns of children left behind by parents serving time in prison. We are looking for Executive Board of Trustee members who can:

  • Raise awareness and act as an ambassador for CPNYC
  • Create partnerships with various respected businesses/individuals
  • Engage with the community

Role and Responsibility:

  • Host at least one small "Friendraiser" event consisting of 5-10 contacts that you would like to introduce to the agency
  • Contribute a Give/Get of $5,000 annually
  • Arrange agency site visits and meetings with Founder and President for at least two (2) prospective supporters

In addition to the above responsibilities, CPNYC seeks board members who:

  • Act as an ambassador for the organization, interpreting its mission and values to the community, professional and personal networks
  • Attend 85% of the Board meetings, committee meetings and organization’s special events
  • Make a meaningful personal financial contribution
  • Stay up-to-date with the status of the program and it’s support offerings
  • Are active participants in policy-making discussions, stay informed of best practices

Mission Statement

Children of Promise, NYC is a community-centered organization that partners with children and families impacted by mass incarceration to dismantle the stigma and heal from the trauma plaguing Black and Brown communities.

Description

CPNYC’s mentoring program, Project DREAM (Developing Responsible, Excellent, and Awesome Minds), matches participants ages 8-18 with one-to-one mentors for a minimum of one year. Mentors are screened and trained, as part of the agency’s larger mission to break the cycle of intergenerational incarceration. Project DREAM offers mentoring matches the opportunity to participate in trips and activities which build the mentoring relationship. Each mentor receives extensive training and support, on an on-going basis and each child in the program receives mental health counseling, academic support and interventions, and opportunities to participate, with their mentor, in recreational and educational activities and outings.
