"A Guardian ad Litem (GAL) is someone who can literally change the world of a child. Appointed by the court to advocate for a child, the volunteer works on a team that includes a volunteer, supervisor and program attorney. Following state-provided training, the GAL familiarizes him himself or herselfwith a child and corresponding case history, then makes critically important recommendations to the court to ensure the child is placed in a safe, caring, stable and permanent home. Simply put, a GAL helps ensure the child never slips between the cracks."
