LITA of Contra Costa "Love Is the Answer"s founded in 1980 as a non profit has a program called "Music Awakenings iPods and iPads Compassion Project which benefits seniors in LITA-served Contra Costa County Nursing Hospitals. Rosewood manor Care in Pleasant HIil is one of 4 active skilled nursing facilities LITA serves in addition to Contra Costa County Medical Center.

Any and all school required community service hours sought after by volnteers can be signed off my LITA Open up the great experience of meeting the seniors and playing music samples for them from LITAs iPads with an amazing library of senior favorites from many cultures and music genres.

LITA visits are mainly to the quite elderly and most have various disablities, often suffering from aphasia, dementia or Alzheimer’s. Each LITA volunteer may program music for one or more senior resident. A LITA interview determines era of music and recording artists favored. (Care Facility Staff and family assist when resident cannot speak.) LITA Music Awakening Volunteers program an iPod with 50 to 60 pie LITA works with Activity staff on care and handling of the completed iPod , which is dedicated for enjoyment and relief of that idividual facility resident. Research in person using our iPad to play samples or programming from LITA's massive music library on flash drives or volunteer to programm individual music off site for the residents. LITA is always seeking new and gently used iPods Finding equipment, recorders, chargers and earphones for this project is a vital and ongoing volunteer & LITA agency activity. Significant volunteer hours are credited for anyone leading a c ommunity donation campaign that results in new iPods, chargers or new headphones. iPod donors get a Tax Deductible Contribution receipt LITA of Contra Costa for the estimated value of any donated iPod, new headphones or chargers. Volunteers may find used iPods on Ebay and Amazon or elsewhere. An iPod Shuffle is the best example of a device that works well for a senior. The average cost of a used iPod Shuffle may be around $35 , New at Target $49 Combined cost for headphones & charger together can be found for about $30). Music Awakenings has proven that individualized music playlists greatly improves the moods of disabled and/or very elderly patients who may have very limited vision, little or no privacy or entertainment options besides communal TV and may be physically unable leave their room. Multiple studies show free access to their favorite music, provides care facility residents relief from agitation, insomnia, sundowners & more for disabled and elderly living in nursing care facilities. Music is a wonderful& healing gift.

OUR MISSION LITA of Contra Costa involves community members of All Ages, educating and supporting Youth, Families and aspiring Artists for Success as Volunteer Visitors accomplishing our Mission to improve quality of life for seniors and disabled persons living in assisted living and skilled nursing facilities throughout Contra Costa and Alameda County.
