The International Economic Summit is a competitive event in which High School Students must utilize economic concepts in a game of International Trade.
Bankers:
- Assigned approximately 6 countries; function as their bank.
- During Alliance Session: walk around and grade your teams' tables.
- During Trade Session: collect tariffs, sell long-term development projects, issue loans, and provide currency exchanges. Then, once the session is over, tally up final Banking scores for each team.
- Costume Judging: grade your teams' costumes.
- During Debate: vote on the global proposal you believe should become a reality the most.
- During Awards ceremony: pack up your papers and go home!
Scorekeepers:
- Assigned approximately 6 countries; grade their materials.
- Hand out Geography Test; grade it when teams return.
- Hand out Trade Alliance sheets; grade them when teams return.
- Hand out Export Resources, foreign aide coupons & currency; then grade each team based on whether or not they reached their strategic goals when teams return.
- Hand out Economics test; grade it when teams return.
- During Debate: vote on the global proposal you believe should become a reality the most!
- During Awards ceremony: pack up your papers and go home!
For both of these roles your lunch will be provided and you will be sitting the majority of the time.

To train the next generation of global leaders providing a hands-on, activity-based learning program for high schools that teaches the significance and the basic concepts of globalization, international economics and what it takes to make highly interdependent nations competitive in today’s dynamic economic environment
Description
The IES program includes a complete classroom curriculum plus a final activity in which students, divided into country teams, apply the concepts they have learned in a simulation of today’s global economy.
The classroom curriculum consists of lesson plans and activities that teach the core concepts of international economics and globalization. The lessons are correlated with national and state standards for economic education and include:
- Improving the global standard of living
- The need for long term economic stability, investment and growth
- The benefits of international trade
- Specialization and comparative advantage
- The forces of supply and demand in the global economy
- The costs of protectionism
- The role of central banks
- The balance between international competition and cooperation
