Literacy Volunteers Fox Valley is seeking volunteers to help adults learn English. A four-session tutor training workshop will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays, October 3, 5, 10, and 12 at the St. Charles Public Library, One South Sixth Avenue in St. Charles.
Literacy Volunteers Fox Valley, a literacy program based at the St. Charles Public Library, provides texts, study material, and training so that anyone can be a tutor. Tutors and students meet for one hour each week.
Adult learners come to the program from more than 30 different countries for the opportunity to provide for their families, live in safe neighborhoods, and send their children to good schools. It is estimated that there are 42,000 adults in central Kane County who need to improve their English. Literacy Volunteers Fox Valley tutors teach about 300 adults annually.
