Please contact our Volunteer Services Manager, Sue Schmidt for more information: volunteer@labattleship.com or messages only at: (877) 446-9261 x 5.

The Security Department at the Pacific Battleship Center is responsible for the Safety and Security of Guests, Staff, and Property. This is accomplished by assessing risks, determining threat levels, and the development and execution of the Safety and Security plan. The security department is also responsible for other duties as assigned. Recognizing that Pacific Battleship Center exists solely for the benefit of the public, both through providing tours and information and by preserving the historic Battleship Iowa, Security's role is multifaceted.
We provide the following:
- A safe and enjoyable experience for our visitors and staff
- Protection of artifacts aboard the Battleship from loss or damage by vistors and staff
- First response and emergency coordination in the event of injury
- Crowd Control
- Access Control
- Physical Reception (aft Quarterdeck) including the receiving of shipments and non-tour visitors.
Trust, Integrity, Service, and Professionalism are the hallmark of the security staff.
Become part of a diverse and knowledgeable crew. We have a good time! Interviews are arranged by appointment. There is no age limit, but you must be at least 18, have good stamina and be able to handle ladders. Scheduling is flexible, with an requested minimum requirement of 16 hours / month.
Benefits:
As a PBC volunteer, you are joining the crew of the Battleship IOWA, one of the fastest growing new museums in Los Angeles. We are a community that is sustained by the drive to preserve and interpret this iconic and unique piece of history for generations to come. You will work with a dedicated and highly motivated group of volunteers from multiple generations including veterans who served aboard the Battleship IOWA.
Our crew members enjoy a host of social activities including potlucks, field trips, special lectures and behind the scenes tours of areas of the ship that are not open to the general public. Volunteers receive a discount in our ship’s store and in some area restaurants and businesses. Our volunteers are also recognized with a variety of awards and ceremonies that celebrate milestones of service and outstanding accomplishments. (Some of these activities are currently on hold due to the pandemic.)
If you take the leap and join our crew, you are guaranteed to meet amazing people, have fun, and enjoy the satisfaction of being part of something important, something bigger than the sum of its parts. We strive for excellence in restoration, interpretation, education, and running this organization as a viable non-profit business that’s in it for the long haul. Come be a part of history today!
