Volunteer opportunity description | Exit preview

The Actors Theatre Workshop is an award-winning non-profit theatre, community center and educational institution that teaches innovative educational techniques and theatre principles to adults and children from all walks of life; produces classical and contemporary plays and documentary films that maintain the highest artistic standards; and develops new dramatic works that examine the social issues of the day.

Thurman E. Scott, ATW’s artistic director and award winning theatre artist, will be leading a 3 day event, on September 19,20 and 21, at the Convent Avenue Baptist Church. This workshop will focus on addressing diversity in our community and church family. This workshop aims to open the discussion on diversity. Participants will learn powerful techniques to forgive and accept people who are different and how to use curiosity to accept difference to build a community based on WE ARE ONE.

We are looking for experienced event planners and marketers to help promote our important We Are One event.

Because of ATW’s success with programs such as this, Convent Avenue Baptist Church has asked Mr. Scott to create a program that addresses the expanding and increasingly diverse population in Harlem, and the issues and conflicts that sometimes arise when individuals of different races and cultures interact. Mr. Scott’s weekend program will address these issues, the larger issues of classism, sexism and ant-Semitism, and provide techniques we can use every day to get past the barriers that divide us. At this time in our city, country and around the world, it is crucial that we learn to break down these barriers, and it is our hope and belief that this program will have an important impact on this process.
