The American Cancer Society’s Road to Recovery program provides transportation for cancer patients to and from treatment, a valuable service to cancer patients in your community. Transportation to cancer treatments, often scheduled on a daily basis for many weeks, can cause great difficulty for patients and their families. The goal of the program is to assist cancer patients while they are receiving cancer-related medical treatment. To volunteer call 1-800-227-2345 or visit

Volunteer drivers should:
* Be familiar with the community (roads, locations of major hospitals, etc.)
* Possess a safe driving record.
* Have access to a serviceable car with seatbelts and adequate insurance coverage.
* Be emotionally stable, friendly, and compassionate.
* Demonstrate sensitivity to the cancer patient and tact in conversation and attitude.
* Respect the patient’s right to confidentiality.
* Cooperate with other volunteers and staff.
* Attend an orientation training.
* Follow through on all commitments.
