Passage Community is a 17-unit apartment building near the Minneapolis Institute of Arts serving families that have experienced homelessness. Families living at Passage Community have an affordable apartment and staff support to help them achieve stability.
Passage Community has a high-quality and rigorous after school reading tutoring program for Pre-Kindergarten to 5th grade students. Tutors are matched 1:1 with a students and meet with that student every week for the school year. Tutoring is on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays from 5:00 pm until 6:00 pm. Starting in November we will be an adding a Thursday session.
Our goal is for each child to work up to grade level reading. 75% of children who are homeless are below grade level and we know that if the learning gap does not diminish the children will continue to struggle academically.Volunteers commit to volunteering weekly from late September through May. The regular support by volunteers will provide continuity for the children.
Tutors can sign up to volunteer once a week or multiple times a week.

- housing programs for single adults without children
