Community Advocates for Family & Youth (CAFY) is dedicated to upholding the rights of victims of crime and strives for the empowerment and recovery of victims emotionally, physically, and financially. Our Advocates volunteers work to interact and deal directly with survivors. We need more community people who care and want to make a difference.

Positions - Helpline; Crisis Intake; Chatroom support; Advocate support

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Serves as a liaison between the victim and others for service access.

  • Informs victims about their constitutional and statutory mandated victim's rights.

  • Assists victims in securing services to help promote healing from victimization

  • Assesses victim needs and acts as a resource for in-house and community service referrals.

  • Engages in follow-up contact with victims during and after case disposition as needed.

  • Maintains statistical reports on services provided.

  • Takes action on and helps resolves issues with clients regarding criminal case.

  • Assists in the completion of victim services plan for all survivors, victims and secondary victims referred. Participates in-service training and exposure to various criminal justice and victim-related matters.

  • Participates in community outreach activities.

    Requirements:

  • Should have strong interpersonal communication skills, both verbal and written.

  • Able to deal with emotional aspects of working with victims of crime.

  • Excellent listening, communication skills

  • Able to work effectively with a diverse group of people.

  • Ability to work independently and follow through.

  • A desire to help the underserved and unserved survivors of crime.
