VOLUNTEER TO BE A COMPUTER CLASS TEACHING AIDE! Volunteers needed to help low-wage service workers learn and practice computer skills!

Building Skills Partnership (BSP) is a non-profit organization and a unique collaboration between responsible businesses and the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) to build a strong future for low-wage service workers and their families by advancing skills, opportunities and self-sufficiency.

Volunteer Skill Requirements: • Patience, enthusiasm, and respect for other cultures. • Dependability and flexibility. • Spanish speaking skills and teaching experience helpful, but not required.

Responsibilities: • Assist in a multi-level computer literacy class for low-wage immigrant workers. •Support instructor in teaching basic to advanced computer applications varying from simple keyboarding to different Windows Operating Systems, spreadsheets, and other programs. •Support the instructor with computer skill learning activities by working with small groups of students. • Commitment to volunteer in the great majority of Saturday classes offered for the 3-month duration of the course.

When: Saturdays 10am to 12pm. Classes will begin September 13th and run through December 13th, 2014.

Where: SEIU-USWW Office - 1010 Ruff Dr., San Jose, CA 95110

Benefits: As a volunteer at BSP you will receive training and acquire skills in teaching computer literacy, gain knowledge about the issues facing newcomer families, and learn about the social services and other resources available to immigrants and low-wage workers in the Bay Area. BSP is a registered 501(c)(3) and volunteer hours can count towards fulfilling a community service requirement.

The Building Skills Partnership (BSP) represents a unique non-profit collaboration between the property service workers’ union Service Employees International Union - United Service Workers West (SEIU- USWW), commercial building owners, property service employers, client companies and community leaders. BSP offers comprehensive programs tailored to the diverse needs of the community. Our core strategies leverage workforce development, immigrant integration, and community advancement. We have seven offices across the state of California from Sacramento to San Diego. Building Skills Partnership program areas and its curriculum play a key role in driving the productivity and competitiveness of the industry and contributing to the economic and social development of our communities throughout the state.
