Interested in helping community cats (aka free-roaming, stray or feral cats) in your area?

A partnership between Best Friends Animal Society and PetSmart Charities, the Columbus Community Cats Project humanely and effectively reduces the number of cats living on our streets.

You can put your talents to work in the following ways:

Return-to-Field transporter

Don't have much time to spare but still want to help? You can get involved by volunteering to help return fixed cats to their original location. You’ll use your own vehicle to pick up them from the shelter, and take them back to their colony to be released. Each trip only takes about an hour and a half or less.

Neighborhood canvasser and educator

Consider yourself a people person? We need friendly folks to go door-to-door distributing community cat program educational and promotional materials. You’ll also be responsible for hanging posters and distributing materials at community meetings.

Cat care and housekeeping

Calling all clean freaks. This position involves maintaining and cleaning the new community cat room, as well as cleaning, feeding and caring for friendly and feral cats in traps. We’d also like your help restocking the community cat rooms with cat food, litter boxes, newspaper, water, trap covers and towels, as well as washing and drying trap covers. This position runs seven days a week.

Community cat trapper and transporter

Be a super sleuth. We need people to trap community cats in specific areas with Best Friends staff, and to accompany staff in a project van to and from clinics, holding areas and animal shelters, and back to the trap location. You can also work independently.
