If you are 55+ and would like to have an impact on the communties in the Knox, Lincoln, and Waldo County areas, we would love to hear from you.

We need volunteers to serve in the following ways:

1. Be a tutor or mentor to youth

2. Provide transportation for homebound seniors to stores, appointments, etc.

3. Provide companionship to homebound seniors

4. Assist food pantries and soup kitchen with serving those in need

If you are a regular volunteer, then you know the satisfaction that comes from helping others. Surveys tell us that most folks become volunteers because someone asked them to. Consider yourself asked, and ask a friend to join you.

Description

Make a Difference in the Life of a Child

The Foster Grandparent Program offers seniors age 55 and older opportunities to serve as mentors, tutors, and loving caregivers for children and youth with special needs. If you are interested in serving as a Foster Grandparent, you must meet income eligibility guidelines, and you will receive a modest, tax-free stipend to offset the cost of volunteering. Foster Grandparents serve 15 hours a week, usually 4 hours a day Monday through Friday, serving children with one-on-one, direct service. Other benefits include reimbursement for transportation, some meals during service, an annual physical, and accident and liability insurance while on duty, vacation time, etc. Pre-Service orientation and monthly training sessions provided.
