We currently have a need for volunteers for two of our programs: Family Visitation Center Program: Here’s a great volunteer opportunity as a Family Visitation Center Coach. Friends of the Family (FOF) is a 43 year old family resource center located in the San Fernando Valley. FOF has partnered with churches in the area who allow us to use space for a visitation site where parents, who have been granted weekly supervised visitation rights through the court system, can visit their child in a safe and family friendly environment. As a coach, you would support, "cheerlead" and overall assist the parent in ensuring that the visit goes smoothly, providing re-direction when needed. The commitment is 6-12 months for 2 hours/week. Must be over 21 years old, and must complete a 24 hour training and certification provided at no cost to participant. Training will be provided by Friends of the Family and includes all materials and follow up supervision and support. Must be able to pass a Live Scan background check. Volunteers should have an interest in working with families and conflict mediation. Please contact Denise Johnson at Friends of the Family: (818)988-4430. Safe Child Custody Exchange Program: Here's a great opportunity to volunteer with Friends of the Family (a 43 year old family resource center located in the San Fernando Valley) monitoring custody exchanges at either the Mission Hills or West Valley police stations. Monitors will be trained in assisting parents with severe conflict to exchange their children in a safe, family-friendly environment where their children won't have to experience seeing their parents argue. The commitment is 6-12 months for 3 hours/week. Must be over 21 years old, and must complete a 8 hour training and certification provided at no cost to participant. Training will be provided by Friends of the Family and includes all materials and follow up supervision and support. Must be able to pass a Live Scan background check. Volunteers should have an interest in working with families, law enforcement and conflict mediation. Please contact Denise Johnon at Friends of the Family: (818)988-4430
