In just two hours a week you can mentor a child in reading that could change a life forever. YMCA Reads! is an after-school reading assistance and mentoring program at Plantation Elementary School. This program offers a free service to students who are having trouble in reading and get the extra help they need to succeed in school and eventually in life. Becoming a volunteer and mentor for this student is a very easy process and just a few hours a week can make a huge difference in a child’s life. Volunteer mentors will help children learn to read during two, one-hour sessions weekly after school for the school year!If you are interested in helping students succeed in reading please do not hesitate to call or email me. Volunteers must be at least 18, complete our online volunteer application, on-boarding, and pass background checks/fingerprinting. Full training provided.

Mission Statement
The mission of the YMCA of South Florida is to put Judeo-Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind, and body for all.
Description
The YMCA of South Florida is part of the YMCA of the USA, the largest not-for-profit community service organization and second largest charity in America.
Serving the Greater Miami area since 1916, the YMCA has programs for kids, families and the community from the Miami-Dade/Broward County line south to the Upper Keys. Programs are held in schools, parks, recreation centers, and at our 4 YMCA Family Centers and our 3 preschools.
All YMCA programs are designed to build the core character values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility. The YMCA is for people of all faiths, races, abilities, ages and incomes. Our goal is to turn no one away. Our strength is in the people we bring together.
The YMCA is volunteer-lead, with an all volunteer Board of Directors. Financial assistance is available, thanks to the support of the community for the YMCA’s Strong Kids Campaign. Additional support for children and families to participate include grants from community partners, corporations, foundations, and government agencies.
