The GreenHouse is an innovative community enrichment center that offers tutoring, mentoring, leadership development, recreation, and enrichment activities for under-resourced youth in the Gardenland-Northgate neighborhood of Sacramento. Our mission is to cultivate a thriving community by nurturing the emotional, spiritual, intellectual, and physical development of our youth and inspiring them to grow to their full potential. We serve elementary-aged students and teens in a neighborhood with one of the highest concentrations of children living in poverty in the Sacramento area. Less than half of the students enrolled in our after-school programs are at or above grade level in the areas of Language Arts and Math. At the same time, it is a community bursting with parent and youth leadership and a wide diversity of strong families who are highly committed to their children's success, including families from Russia, Ukraine, India, Pakistan, all over Latin America, and immigrant communities from Laos.

At The GreenHouse, you will gain first-hand experience working in a low-income community, addressing the needs and challenges of its youth. Interns at The GreenHouse impact students through program development, staff support, tutoring, mentoring, and leadership development. Evergreen, an after-school tutoring and enrichment program, provides first through sixth graders with a safe, fun, and nurturing environment to do homework, improve academic skills, and participate in recreational activities.

You can support The GreenHouse elementary after-school program 4 hours a week by: preparing small-group math enrichment games and projects; working directly with a small group of students who need extra support on homework and other academic activities; leading, supervising, and coordinating academic and artistic enrichment workshops during "Fun Fridays." If interested, contact The GreenHouse to set up an interview.
