Hospice volunteering is an incredibly rewarding experience. Are you a compassionate person with time and skills to offer? Whatever your specialty or passion, there is a place for you as a volunteer with Seasons Hospice. You can increase the quality of life of patients and families who are affected by a terminal illness! You can volunteer all over Los Angeles County, at our Glendale office, or from your home!

We are currently training:

  • Direct Patient Care Volunteers-- visit patients to offer companionship, support, and caregiver relief for patients all over Los Angeles county!
  • Office Volunteers-- join us in our friendly Pasadena office to assist with administrative work, Monday through Friday. Hours are flexible!
  • Vigil Volunteers-- offer your comfort and presence to the patient and family during the last hours of life.
  • Bereavement Phone Call Volunteers-- we keep in touch with the family at specific intervals after their loved one has died. Make the phone calls that offer comfort and support.
  • Namaste-- a specialized program for our dementia patients that uses light touch and sensory stimulation.
  • Music Companion and Spiritual Companion Volunteers-- do you have a musical talent or a skill for offering spiritual comfort to people? You can share that with patients and families.
  • Circle of Care Volunteers-- volunteer for 2 hours a week, on Thursday evenings, by making phone calls to a group of patients to "tuck them in" for the weekend and assuring they have the supplies, medications, and support they need!
  • Respite Volunteers-- offer a break to a caregiver by making one-time, 3-4 hour long visits to patients while the caregiver takes some time for themselves.

Description

Volunteers play an extremely important role in hospice. Without them, most hospices would not be able to carry on their work.

Of the 115,000 persons involved in hospice care in America, some 95,000 are volunteers and each year they give more than 5 million hours to helping dying persons and their families.

They provide assistance at all levels of skill. Many are relatives and friends of former hospice patients who, having seen how much hospice can help, want to contribute to its good work.

As a direct patient care volunteer you would be providing the patient and/or family with emotional support and companionship. Volunteer activities with patients include watching tv, reading, listening to music, crafts, scrap-booking, listening, talking and most of all becoming a new friend to someone who is terminally ill and in there last stages of life. Have you ever wanted to be there for someone who is alone and be able to brighten the last stage of their life?

As a volunteer you will provide care and support that is unique to each patient's needs. By doing this you can create a bond between you and the patient that is priceless. If you are looking for a rewarding volunteer opportunity than this is it for you! I'd love to hear from you. Volunteers go through 18 hours of training, much of which can be done at home. A free TB test is included and you will be completely prepared to see your 1st patient. Hope to hear from you!
