Each year, we have opportunities to set up a booth at various events around town. Sometimes these are information fairs - such as United Way, community information events, and family fairs at locations such as the State Capital, the Zoo, and Fairy Tale Town. As a member of the Community Relations Team, you would represent the Powerhouse Science Center booth, greet members of the public, distribute science center materials, and answer questions about our programs.
Most of these events occur either during workday hours or on weekends. Some last only an hour or two, and some take place over several days. In any event, we wouldn’t expect you to volunteer for more time than you are comfortable signing up for!
Your training will take place on-the-job with one of our outreach staff, so you can learn first-hand how to engage our public and answer questions. You will also receive a one-hour orientation introduction to the museum. You’ll need a smile, a friendly attitude, lots of enthusiasm about the science center, and a willingness to chat with folks who stop by our booth.
