PLACEMENT PURPOSE
Serve as a Red Cross spokesperson who relays information about local disasters to the local media via telephone, on-site presence, email, and online.
OPEN TIME DAYS
Two to four weeknight shifts or one weekend shift per month.⦆
Attend scheduled meetings, training, and exercises.
REQUIRED TRAININGTraining:
Approximately 15 hours of training required before volunteering in the field, including these courses:
Disaster Services: An Overview
Online Disaster Public Affairs Overview
Public Affairs: The Local Response
An additional 20 hours of training is required within the first year of volunteering, including these courses:
Disaster Action Team (DAT) Orientation
Shelter Operations and Simulation
Psychological First Aid
