Tutors engage with adult learners to support them in reaching their literacy goals. Adult learners' goals include learning English, prepping for the GED, or imporving their skills in reading, writing, math, technology, or workplace skills.
No previous teaching experience is necessary. Training required ranges from 6 to 18 hours depending on whether the tutor works at a classroom site or one-on-one with an adult learner. These hours include some self-study and practical experience.
Tutors matched one-to-one are asked to meet with adults weekly. As a classroom tutor, you can volunteer on a regular weekly or monthly basis, or serve as a substitute tutor as needed.

Description
Literacy Volunteers of Southwest Minnesota (LV*SW*MN) is a community-based nonprofit organization founded in 2011 to match trained volunteer tutors and adult learners with specific literacy needs. Tutoring is provided to learners at no cost.
We are located in Marshall, Minnesota but plan to provide tutoring for adults in communities in Lyon and Redwood Counties. We partner with the Southwest Adult Basic Education (ABE) Consortium.
