Book Club Discussion Leader

Our Foundation is seeking four Book Club Volunteers who love to read and read with Children.

We are currently seeking discussion leaders for our Book Club program. Discussion leaders will lead group discussions of contemporary novels with a group of participating Elementary and Middle School Students.

The program meets weekly for two-hour long sessions on Tuesdays, Starting September 2018-June 2019 from 5:00pm-7:00pm.... Note: You do not have to commit to every Tuesday, but we would love to have you come in twice a month, if not we can work with your schedule to come in once a month.

Location: We will meet at the Blazers Youth Organization and USC-College

Volunteers will:

Lead weekly book club discussions, coordinate activities with participating students,

Please note, that most books that the club reads comes with activities and lesson plans.

Interested volunteers should have:

Classroom experience, or the ability to want to work with students in a non-academic setting. Interest in contemporary fiction, or literary non-fiction,

a desire to engage diverse audiences in discussions about literature and activities.

Patience, and love working with boys and girls of all ages. We welcome high school students!

Description

The Dr. Barbara Seniors Harkins Foundation is a non-profit organization based in Los Angeles, California and Homestead, Florida. The late Dr. Harkins believed that all children, regardless of race, gender, or class, deserved to enjoy the best possible future. She devoted her life to providing underprivileged children with the support and encouragement they needed. Through the Foundation Dr. Harkins’ legacy of compassion will live on.
