About
Position Title: Exhibit Guide
Time Commitment:
- One 2-4 hour shift per week
Reports to: Volunteer Director
Works with: Children and families, Volunteer Director, Exhibits Director
Description of role: Exhibit Guides help lead a supplemental activity related to one of the museum exhibits and help visitors with exhibits as needed. They encourage visitors to join in the exhibit activity. Exhibit guides teach school readiness skills to young children and facilitate exploration and play with the activity.
Primary duties include:
- Actively encourage kids to join in the exhibit activity by making the activity visible, inviting, and engaging
- Set up, lead, and clean up an exhibit activity
- Teach young children simple skills and concepts, and encourage them to play and explore as they attempt to perform the activity
- Help visitors use and understand our current exhibits
Secondary duties include:
- Keep the exhibit activity bins stocked with supplies and notify staff members if materials need to be repaired or replaced
- Play with the activity or create samples of the activity when kids are not participating
Skills Required:
- Ability to be vocal and encourage others to participate in activities
- Ability to work with young children
- Patience and flexibility while teaching young children who may approach activities in different ways
Training Provided:
- Volunteer Orientation (required)
- Exhibit Activities training (required)
- On-the-job training
