We mobilize community volunteers to spend at least 1 hour per week (two students/30 minutes ea.) reading with a child in our reading centers located on various local elementary school campuses in Chico. You get to pick the school, time, and day of your volunteering experience. We use a proven literacy curriculum and easy to follow "lesson-plan" during our sessions where you will read 1-on-1 with a student between grades 2-5. Our data this year has shown that students enrolled in Reading Pals improve by 1 year's worth of literacy skills in just the first 5 months of the program. Together we can build bright futures for these amazing kids. By choosing to read with us this spring you will inevitably change a life forever.

About Reading Pals Chico
Location:

Mission Statement
Reading Pals is a local literacy campaign started by community members who recognize the importance of reading and the implications that illiteracy will have on our community if the problem is not addressed. We are committed to providing every child an opportunity for an excellent education through one-on-one tutoring to students who currently do not read at grade level.
Description
The ability to read is fundamental to success- in school, in the workplace, and in becoming an engaged citizen. Too many of the kids in our community today, cannot read at grade level. We need concerned citizens who are willing to spend 1-hour a week helping a child learn to read, in turn, building their self confidence and setting them on a path to success.
Readings Pals aims to see every child enter 7th grade reading at grade level, equipped with the tools they need to learn and to engage as citizen steward of their community.
