Concert Series Volunteer
Upbeat on Jackson is a year-long community concert series in Seattle's Central District. The concerts are free and open to the public and take place in one of LIHI's low-income senior-living apartments. The building is named after jazz legend Ernestine Anderson and the series is meant to revive the musical legacy of Jackson St. One Saturday a month a new artist performs for a crowd of up to 90 guests.
We have two opportunities to get involved:
1. Marketing: Help us submit press releases to local community calendars and newspapers; hang posters in the neighborhood and nearby businesses (can be done on a flexible schedule).
2. Setup/Tear Down: Help us setup the venue and equipment; clean up afterwards (one Saturday a month- dates set).
The concerts are a great way to bring high-quality and live music to low-income and recently homeless individuals who many not otherwise have access to these opportunities. Your help will brighten the lives of many and enhance LIHI's community presence. Plus you get to hear some great local artists!
Visit www.facebook.com/upbeatonjackson for more information about the series.

About Low Income Housing Institute
Location:

Mission Statement
The Low Income Housing Institute develops, owns and operates housing for the benefit of low-income, homeless and formerly homeless people in Washington state; advocates for just housing policies at the local and national levels; and administers a range of supportive service programs to assist those we serve in maintaining stable housing and increasing their self-sufficiency.
Description
LIHI develops and provides affordable housing to 4,000+ low income, homeless and formerly homeless people, including families. In 2019, an estimated 11,199 people experienced homelessness in King County alone. Many of LIHI housing projects focus on transitioning families and individuals out of homelessness, including chronically homeless populations. Most of the units developed by LIHI are occupied by formerly homeless households.
LIHI assists our residents with services that help them maintain stable housing and prevent them from becoming homeless again (e.g. through improving resident income and/or education status, dealing with long standing mental and physical health conditions) and increase self-sufficiency.
We also help homeless individuals and families remain healthy & employed: LIHI operates the Urban Rest Stop - an innovative hygiene center for the homeless located in downtown Seattle; a safe, clean and dignified place where as many as 500 homeless individuals, families, elders and youth access restrooms, showers, and laundry facilities each day. This center is open seven days a week, with extended hours specifically designed to assist homeless persons who are working or seeking employment. 60% of URS patrons have steady employment, but can't earn enough income to afford the rent.
