AgeWell Rides
Ruth is getting a short ride in a snappy convertible - a great way to get to her fitness class and lunch at the senior center!

Individuals age 60 years and older represent a growing segment of Allegheny County’s population. The lack of easy, accessible, and affordable transportation for seniors is a problem recognized at the national, state, and local levels.

Hanging up those car keys can feel like the end of an era and a loss of abilities. AgeWell Rides keeps older adults active and independent by getting them to appointments, to the grocery store and so much more!

Without transportation, simple things such as medical appointments, grocery shopping, or a lunch date become major life challenges. You can become a part of AgeWell Rides and help older adults stay connected to our community. Our Riders are located in Squirrel Hill, Oakland, Shadyside and Greenfield. If you live in these areas and want to help out with a short local ride, this is the volunteer position for you!

AgeWell Rides provides:

  • Training - instruction is an integral part of our volunteer service.
  • Flexible hours - drivers choose who, when, and where they drive
  • Convenient, web-based scheduling system. Rides average 3-5 miles round trip
  • Periodic gift cards as a token of our thanks.
  • Secondary insurance

AgeWell Rides is a senior transportation program that matches drivers and riders. If you can even give one short drive a month you can make a tremendous difference in the life of a senior! Using your own car, volunteers take seniors to medical appointments, grocery shopping, to the hairdresser, religious gatherings - or whatever helps to keep that person active and living independently!

Rides are short and easy, but make a huge difference. Our easy-to-use computer program helps you see what rides are available, and gives you a Google map to find your rider, the destination and how to get home!
