Mission Statement

The mission of Special Equestrians of Georgia, Inc. is to provide therapeutic riding for physically and mentally challenged children and adults. By using the natural walking gait of the horse, we can simulate the movement of a person when they are walking on healthy typical legs. Therapeutic riding gives children and adults the ability to explore and improve their physical and mental abilities, creates independence and freedom, and promotes a sense of accomplishment that might not be duplicated in traditional therapy settings. It is therapy for the mind, body, and soul.

Description

Therapeutic Riding is used to help children and adults with disabilities and handicaps in an untraditional setting. The use of the horse as a therapy tool, can help with many different types of disabilities and conditions.

For physical disabilities, the horses natural walking gait, works the human body as ifit is walking on their own two legs. For people with Cerebral Palsy, low tone, stroke, MS, Apraxia, and so much more, the horse works the total body, especially through core strengthing.

For emotional and behavioral disorders, such as Autism, Downs Syndrome, and Aspergers Syndrome, the power of being on a horse, the motivation and excitement, it creates, allows for therapy to happen without the client being aware that it is therapy. The atmosphere is empowering, and gives these special people an opportunity to feel "normal".
