Mission Statement

Harris County Public Library's literacy and English as a second language programs help adults with the basic reading and writing and/or spoken English skills they need to reach work, family and personal goals. Our branches provide a place where tutors and students from a variety of cultural and educational backgrounds can meet to share what they have learned.

Description

The library provides help in basic literacy (for English-speaking adults who read and write at a fifth-grade level or below) or English as a second language (for adults who do not speak English). Adult learners and volunteer tutors meet individually or in small groups once or twice per week. The library provides training and materials at no cost.
