United Way of Marion County is seeking volunteers to be placed in targeted, kindergarten classrooms in 15 elementary schools throughout Marion County for the 2016-2017 school year. Volunteers are matched with a child to work on literacy skills. This consists of reading to a child a pre-selected book, discussing the book with the student and reinforce particular focus points. At the back of each book there are questions and answers that are correlated to what is being taught in the classroom. The student will also read to you as the school year progresses. The volunteer commitment consists of a 30 minute session, during the school day, once or twice a week for 25 weeks during the school year. Training materials and background screening will be provided. Three hour educational workshops are held at United Way of Marion County and at Master the Possibilities in the On Top Of The World complex.
You choose the school based on your schedule and location. The session times are set by the school.
