Drop-in center volunteers help plan and facilitate activities and programming for LGBTQ youth across a 7 county area in north central IL, including drop-in centers specific to the needs of trans and gender expansive youth. Volunteers may also assist in community education/networking and supporting the youth leadership and HIV prevention programs. Volunteers with appropriate skills and interests may choose to work with the parent group.

In person drop in centers operate weekly in Naperville, DeKalb, Palatine, Ottawa, Sterling, Elmhurst, and Downers Grove, with new sites opening in Joliet/Lockport and Plainfield during 2022. All sites run weekly on their designated day. We have two virtual drop-in centers, with a third launching in 2022. New volunteers are sought for all locations and the virtual groups.

  • evening / 06:00 PM to 09:15 PM
    Each drop-in center location requires a minimum of 2 staff to operate. Larger drop-in centers require additional staff.

Mission Statement

Youth Outlook provides safe, supportive and respectful environments for adolescents who identify as gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender or questioning (GLBTQ); through wellness education, leadership development, drop-in centers and community education in DuPage, Kane, and DeKalb, Illinois counties.

Description

Drop In Centers in Naperville, DeKalb, Sterling & Aurora provide safe social settings for youth to meet weekly to support each other and discuss topics of interest to participants.

Youth Leadership Program provides opportunities to help run drop-in centers, assist with volunteer training, organize special projects, participate in community education and advise the agency board through the Youth Advisory Board.

Transcend, a weekly program for transgender youth, provides a forum to discuss issues such as gender identity, hormone injections, legal issues, etc.

Community Education on LGBT youth issues, development and current trends offered statewide
