ORGANIZATION: Our Lady of Mercy Community Outreach Services, Inc.

Primary responsibility: Help staff connect with individuals and businesses in the community to donate auction items, become a sponsor, be an in-kind donor or attend the auction.
* Available on January 28, 2017.
* Auction planning begins in July.
* Attends monthly in-person meetings start in August or September
* Works closely with auction volunteers and Our Lady of Mercy Community Outreach staff between meetings
* Communicate via email on a daily basis
* Prior fundraising and auction experience is helpful but not required
* Approve draft of a letter demonstrating the need for funds, promoting the auction and OLMCO
* Recruit additional in-kind donors and sponsors
* Recruit auction sub-committee chairpersons
* Invite new attendees to the auction
* The week before the auction requires intense preparation
* Assist staff in making decisions

To learn more, come to one of our orientations either the third Friday of the month downtown at 77 America st at 11:00, or the fourth Thursday of every month on Johns Island at 1684 Brownswood rd. at 10:00.

The mission of Our Lady of Mercy Community Outreach is to build equitable communities and empower individuals to reach their full potential by providing basic and emergency needs, education, employment and health services.

Description

Our Lady of Mercy Community Outreach Services has been an anchor in the Sea Island community since before Hurricane Hugo in 1989 and in the eastside of Charleston at the Neighborhood House for over 100 years. The organization p rovides dental and pre-natal care, emergency food, clothing and financial assistance, lunch five days a week (downtown location) , and diverse educational and capacity-building opportunities such as after-school programs, financial literacy, GED and ESL classes, workforce development, and more.

We operate two campuses - one on Johns Island that serves residents of Johns, James, and Wadmalaw Islands, West Ashley (inside 526), Adams Run, Meggett, Ravenel, Hollywood, Edisto Island - and the other in the Eastside Community of downtown Charleston that serves residents of downtown Charleston and West Ashley (outside 526). We were founded by the Sisters of Charity of Our Lady of Mercy in 1989 and we are a 501c3 organization.
