Job Description: The Volunteer Medical Assistant (VMA) is the first medical point of contact for a patient visiting Christ Clinic. The VMA is responsible for gathering initial information from the patient such as the patient’s symptoms, age and current medical condition. VMAs also take vital signs, height, weight, and blood pressure screenings in a fast-paced working environment. In addition to rooming patients and taking vitals, VMAs assist with lab duties. VMAs perform phlebotomy, prepare and organize blood samples and requisitions according to lab recommendations. VMAs assist with any lab procedures requested by providers; such as ECG, Hgb A1c, urinalysis, ear lavage, nebulizer treatment, etc. Six months of experience in a healthcare related education program or clinic setting is required. Bilingual (Spanish/English) is a plus.

Description

Christ Clinic services include primary medical care, pharmaceutical assistance and patient education. Christ Clinic provides healthcare access, chronic disease management and preventative care services Monday - Thursday 8:30 AM - 7:00 PM and Friday 8:30 AM - 3:00 PM

In addition, Christ Clinic also obtains donated medications through local doctor’s offices and other national medication donation programs. Volunteers and staff at Christ Clinic also work with local pharmacies who give patients medication at NO or very low cost to the patients. Christ Clinic also helps patients apply for medication assistance from pharmaceutical companies to get name brand medication at no cost to the patients.

Christ Clinic provides chronic disease management and addresses obesity, diabetes and nutrition through patient education classes. Education classes include information about diabetes, maintaining a healthy heart, nutrition classes to promote healthy eating and smoking cessation. As a result of these classes, patients are able to manage their chronic conditions and improve their overall health.

Through these various programs Christ Clinic is able to assist the most vulnerable people living and working in our area. Throughout the year we are able to help numerous people get the healthcare they need.
