Are you interested in history, education, Vermont's past, and the quintiessential Green Mountain Boy, Ethan Allen? At the Ethan Allen Homestead Museum we work to preserve the 1787 homestead of Ethan and his wife Fanny, while educating the public about life in Colonial America.
We currently need both tour guides and greeters to work in our educational center and gift shop. Tour guides would be expected to learn the material (and bring their own interests to the table) and offer tours to guests, while greeters engage visitors, explain the mission of the museum and what a tour entails, and answer questions while managing the gift shop and the sales of tickets and inventory. Both positions are unpaid but expect to meet wonderful and dedicated people and take part in our end-of-the-year volunteer appreciation cookout and awards ceremony! Our volunteer have three hour shifts, you have as many or as few as you would like!

Mission Statement
At the Ethan Allen Homestead Museum we work to enrich the public's understanding of Vermont's folk hero, Green Mountain Boy Ethan Allen, through educational programming, lectures, school group tours, and living history demonstrations. Using Ethan's 1787 home as the focal point of our tours, we expand our view beyond his own life and times to educate more broadly about life in colonial America. Through visiting Ethan and Fanny's homestead, we hope visitors gain a deep appreciation of Vermont's early history, connect with the roots of the state, and discover their own unique perspective on the past and future of this beautiful area.
Description
The Ethan Allen Homestead and Museum works to maintain the 1787 home of Ethan and Fanny Allen. Our main building, a converted 1940's barn, serves as an educational center, gallery for exhibits, gift shop, tavern and theatre, and classroom space. We offer tours from 10-3:30, Thursday through Monday, mid-May through October. Bus tours, school groups, and single travelers are all welcome to come join us for a tour of the grounds and homestead. We also host "living history' demonstrations, a lecture series, reenactments, and other special events throughout the year. We are privately funded, relying upon support from our members and the contriubtions our guests and patrons offer. We are looking to build upon our base of volunteer tour guides/docents and gift shop greeters as a means of sustaining our operations through this season and into the next!
