The main goal of YMCA Family Hope is to develop social skills of young adults (ages 17-26) and youth diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Wellness-based activities are provided in a group setting to help participants develop social skills and overcome depression and or isolation due to lack of socialization. Another goal is to provide respite and develop a support system among families affected by autism.
Program participants meet for two hours once a month at the Spartan Stores YMCA. During the first hour of each visit, parents and young adults participate together in a physical activity. For the second hour of each session, participants take part in casual socialization at our YMCA Activity Center. This provides families and young adult’s opportunities to engage with one another, discuss important topics, and socialize with peers.
This group typically meets the 3rd Friday of every month from 6:30pm to 8:30pm.
