Toledo Sister Cities International Festival

Looking for volunteers to work with us and TSCI at the 9th Annual Toledo Sister Cities International Festival at the Seagate Center in Downtown Toledo on Saturday, April 14. Volunteers will work in 2 hours shifts and can choose from a variety of options incl. assisting the stage crew, helping serve food, take tickets, assisting with the 50/50 raffle etc.

Most of the shifts are between 10:00AM through 8:00PM, but some preparation (incl. decorations and helping with set up) will start after 8AM.

You will meet a lot of people, learn about all the sister city connections of Toledo and other international programs and opportunities, enjoy some ethnic food, music, and dance before or after your shift. You can meet with a lot of community leaders who are visiting the festival and with some international guests.

Mission Statement

The Great Lakes Consortium (GLC) is a collaborative effort of Bowling Green State University, The University of Toledo, Lourdes University, and WSOS Community Action Commission, INc. GLC is a program of WSOS, a nonprofit organization. Established in 1999 the mission of GLC is :"to initiate, seek support for, and coordinate international training and development efforts linking resourcs with needs in the world community."

Description

In 15 years GLC received 13 grants from the U.S. State Department and seven grants from USAID Community Connections Program, and two grants from the Open World Program for international exchange programs implemented in NW Ohio with countries around the world (Afghanistan, Belarus, Uzbekistan, Botswana, Lebanon,Jordan, UAE, Moldova, Hungary, Russia, Tanzania, Ukraine, Zambia, Bulgaria, Romania, Slovakia, Kyrgyzstan). By the end of 2013, GLC programs welcomed more than 1000 foreign participants in NW Ohio and organized visits for over 850 Americans to travel overseas.

GLC contributed to international education, introduced the foreign guests and programs at more than 520 multicultural public events with an overall impact on over 81,000 Americans in NW Ohio, and thousands of people and their families in Europe, Asia, Africa and other parts of United States (Indiana, Michigan, Illinois). We had a large emphasis on empowerment of women and contributing to the development of the youth locally and globally.

GLC has a wide network and direct impact on five counties (Lucas, Wood, Seneca, Ottawa, Sandusky) in NW Ohio attracting hundreds of volunteers and community partners to local and global activities.
