Do you have a generous, caring heart? Are you interested in serving your community in a deeply meaningful way? Sojourn Hospice invites you to become one of our valued Hospice Volunteer Team Members. Our clients and families appreciate you reading a book to a client, holding a conversation, offering companionship, sitting with a client while the family caregiver runs errands or takes a break, gardening, walking a pet, doing light shopping, etc. The most important skills required are an Open Heart and a Compassionate Presence. Sojourn Hospice volunteers receeive in depth training as well as ongoing individual and group support. We serve Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties; the Peninsula and East Bay communities. We ask a service commitment of 4 hours a week for a minimum of one year. Schedules are flexible according to your availability and client need. This is a volunteer opportunity that can change the way you view and appreciate your own life as you offer your time and kindness to those clients and families who are living with dying . Description

Sojourn Hospice, a program of Healthy Living, Inc., is a hospice serving Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties. We are dedicated to supporting individuals and their families on the journey through the final stages of life. The physical, emotional, spiritual, and mental challenges specific to this experience can be overwhelming for the family and the person with a terminal illness. Sojourn Hospice volunteers receive specialized training in providing compassionate presence and practical support to the individual and the family. Simple human kindness is especially valued and appreciated in these difficult times. Providing even brief moments of relief for patients and their families is so needed and appreciated by those receiving End Of Life care. The rewards of participating in a community joining as a compassionate circle of support can be profound and life changing for all.
