Join a dynamic group of volunteers who become VIEWS Senior Peer Counselors VIEWS is a non-profit volunteer organization that provides free Senior Peer Counseling to older adults in the Portland Metro area. Our volunteers facilitate weekly support groups at senior and community centers and provide individual support to seniors in their homes. We also offer Conversations on Aging "workshops" on topics pertinent to older adults. For 2015 we are seeking compassionate and caring volunteers 55 or over who are available for a no cost training that covers various topics including supportive counseling skills, health issues common to older adults and community resources. Volunteers can also expect ongoing education and support through monthly meetings. VIEWS recognizes that it’s so much easier when people have an opportunity to share the challenges of aging with peers. Come and be part of a program that provides support for seniors by seniors. Please see our website, viewsoregon.org, for information and the online application, or contact: Peter Walsh, VIEWS Program Manager, peter.walsh@cascadiabhc.org (503-261-6181)

Mission Statement
VIEWS: Volunteers Involved for the Emotional Well-being of Seniors
Our mission is to promote the emotional well-being of seniors through peer counseling and social engagement.
Description
VIEWS, a volunteer organization, is a senior peer counseling - by seniors, for seniors. We provide emotional support to older adults as we share the changes and challenges experienced with aging.
Groups: VIEWS offers free peer counseling groups, meeting weekly in accessible locations in Multnomah and Clackamas Counties. These are confidential and commited weekly groups for any aging-related subjects. In some cases of mobility problems, we can provide peer counseling to individuals in their homes.
Facilitated Discussion Groups: VIEWS also offers discussion groups for the public on topics related to positive, healthy aging. These are 90 minute meetings around specific topics, usually held in community centers.
VIEWS recognizes that there are some problems facing older adults, such as grief and loss, adjustment to physical illness, or changes connected to aging, that only other persons of their own age and experience fully appreciate.
