Nature Abounds, a national 501c3 non-profit organization, is looking for senior aged volunteers (55 yrs of age) to serve as Environmental Science Teachers onboard the Steamboat Floating Classroom (SPLASH), or on land, adjacent to the steamboat dock in Hamilton, NJ. Environmental Science classes include: Enviroscape/Watershed Studies; Chemistry of the River; Shad Migration and the Environmental History of the Delaware River; Macroinvertebrates. Most classes are 3 rd grade through 6 th grade, some classes are older. Class size: 8 to 12. Class is taught 3 times per trip.
Availability: Trips are by charter arrangement. Most trips are Monday-Friday, with departure times of 10am and 12:30pm. Teachers need to arrive approximately 45 minutes before departure time, to set up teaching station. Season starts in early May and ends in October. Trip schedule is available online, science teachers can indicate their availability to teach in the online document, or email the trip scheduler.
Responsibilities: Set up teaching station; Dry and put away teaching materials after the trip.
Training: Lesson plans provided. Training arranged with Education Director.
Qualifications: Passion for sharing environmental science with young people. Sense of adventure and fun. A background check is required.
