Maintain knowledge of the organization, understand financial accounting for nonprofit organizations. Serve as the chair of the finance committee. Manage, with finance committee, the board's review of and action related to the board's financial responsibilities. Work with Morton Theatre staff and hired accounting firm to ensure that appropriate financial reports are made available to the board each month. Presents annual budget to board for approval. Reviews and authorizes expenditures with the Executive committee and assists in monitoring budgets for specific projects and fundraising.

Morton Theatre Corporation enriches lives and educates people through shared cultural and community experiences while preserving and honoring the theatre's rich African American heritage.

Description

One of the first, and the oldest surviving vaudeville theatres in the United States, uniquely built, owned, and operated by an African-American; the Morton opened in 1910 and is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. Restored by a 1987 citizen-approved sales tax program in 1993 and adapted as community performing arts space, the Morton operates as a rental facility hosting live theatre, music concerts, church services, weddings, dance concerts, receptions, seminars, awards shows, pageants, community events, and more.

The rehabilitated Morton Theatre, which seats 500, is a unit of the Arts Division of Athens-Clarke County's Leisure Services Department, and is supported in part by the Morton Theatre Corporation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
