Cat Adoption Counselors assist at the shelteron week days (between 11-4) and Saturdays (between 12-4) by fielding adoption interest from visiting members of the public. This position requires thorough training to become familiar with our cats' personalities as well as our adoption guidelines, policies, and procedures. In addition to answering basic questions about each of our adoptables and talking through suitability for specific home settings, seasoned Cat Adoption Counselors are further trained to evaluate and process adoption applications, make recommendations to the Cat Adoption Committee, and do the home-delivery portion of an adoption. Adoption Counselors are generally scheduled for one shift a week, in addition to processing applications from home as-needed throughout the week.

Requirements:

  • Minimum age: 21 years
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to adhere to rescue adoption policies while also communicating with empathy.
  • Training is required and done under the guidance of the Animal Care Manager. There is a minimum commitment of six-months due to the high level of training, which includes shadowing a senior Cat Adoption Counselor. Adoption Counselors are generally scheduled for one shift a week, in addition to processing applications from home as-needed throughout the week.
