Are you a compassionate person? Are you empathetic, moved by the needs of others? Are you willing to give a lot of your heart to people facing end of life? Then being a Sentara Hospice Volunteer may be for you! Our volunteers provide many different types of non-medical support for our hospice program and those coping with life-limiting illnesses, grief, and loss. Sentara Hospice Services’ goal is to improve the quality of a person’s last days by offering comfort and dignity. Our carefully selected and well-trained volunteers are a vital part of this program, working alongside the professional staff to provide comfort and support to patients and their families. Our hospice volunteers have a strong desire to reach out with care and compassion. Volunteer opportunities range from administrative, creative, bereavement support, special events, and other specialty support such as sewing and quilting to offering pet and massage therapy. Volunteering for direct patient care is also available and may include sitting with patient, reading, listening to music, and socialization.
