Volunteers are needed for the many different opportunities: (If you have skills or passion, we can find the spot for you!)
Offsite Dog Adoptions: this includes anything from bathing dogs before the event, transporting them to/from the event, handling them and talking to potential adopters, or setting up the event venue.
PetSmart Cat Crew: Our organization rescues cats and when ready, adopts them out through Rockwall, Tx PetSmart adoption center. Our volunteers maintain the adoption center by cleaning the cat condos, replacing liter, feeding/watering, and cleaning of the adoption area. Of course there is also cat cuddling time between cleans!
Fostering: We are always looking for cat fosters. If you would open your home to a kitten(s) or cat(s) to relax, learn to be a cat, recover from surgery, etc. until they are ready for adoption, then you can be our hero. We can only rescue the cats we have room for so we always need more fosters. If you would like to get started with this opportunity, go to http://friendsofrowlettanimals.org/foster/ to complete the foster application and our Cat Coordinator will be in touch!
Fundraisers: we have many different fundraising opportunities because we think fundraising should be FUN! We have done events such as Pooch Plunge (poochplunge.org), Bowl for a Paws, Mother's Day Photos, local merchant fundraising nights, and much more.
Barn Cats Program: Feral cats have a place and a purpose in this program. Our organization gets them vetted and sterilized and then we find them a happy forever home in a barn or warehouse where they can serve their lives as a mouser. The program is a win/win because the barn owner gets a mouser and they agree to provide food and water for the feral cat. We need volunteers to transport to vets, place and pick up set ups and contacting possible owners for placement. You see there are several opportunities within this one program.
Local Rescue Coordinating: If you have the rescue connections and want to help connect our needs with the rescues ability to help then this volunteer opportunity is for you!
Social Media/Online Marketing: Do you like creating pictorial posts, updating website information, sharing organizational needs through social media and marketing? Do you have the technology skills along with the passion to create eye catching posts? Are you Facebook savvy where you can cross-post to several pages/groups? This is for you!
Videography & Photographers: We are always looking for great photographers and videographers that can help us capture the personality of the dogs and cats at the shelter through the lens. We use the pictures for marketing and fundraising.
Behind the Scenes Data Management: Do you love numbers, details and spreadsheets? Do they make you happy with their straight columns and rows that you fill with details? We have the volunteer opportunity for you!

As you can see, there are many things that are involved with getting the animals adopted, so there is bound to be something that you love to do or that fits your personality!
If you want to get started right away with an amazing group of people trying to make a difference in the Rowlett community and surrounding areas, you can email the Volunteer coordinator at volunteer@friendsofrowlettanimals.org or go to friendsofrowlettanimals.org to learn more about our organization. About Friends of Rowlett/Rescue Animals

Location:

P O Box 758, Rowlett, TX 75030, US

Mission Statement

Our mission is to provide resources, programs and education to promote adoption and care of homeless pets in Rowlett and the Lake Ray Hubbard area.

Description

Friends of Rowlett Animals (FRAs) is a 501(c)(3) all volunteer non-profit organization. FRAs was founded in 2004 and started off with 4 volunteers that wanted to support the Rowlett Animal Shelter . These volunteers sponsored 1 or 2 pets per month and reduced the adoption fees for these highlighted pets in an effort to increase adoptions for the Shelter. Our organization has grown to 100 volunteers and while the Shelter is not an official No-Kill shelter, FRAs has helped the Rowlett Animal Shelter maintain a 98% or better Live Release Rate since 2013! No Kill Shelters must only maintain a 90% or better to be considered No Kill. With this growth now we are able to host multiple off-site adoption events , sponsor heartworm treatments for all dogs in the shelter that test positive for heartworms, sponsor a Barn Cat program for the feral cats , and so much more! FRAs has not only grown in our volunteer size, but we have grown to meet the needs of our community.
