ORGANIZATION: Child Advocates of Silicon Valley

Did you know there are approximately 1,600 foster children in the Santa Clara County?

- - -

Child Advocates of Silicon Valley serves at-risk children in the foster care system by providing a trained, dedicated volunteer Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) to advocate in court for the child’s best interests.

By spending time with a child and getting to know him or her, you can become not only a role model and mentor, but also a trusted friend. CASAs attend dependency court hearings and provide reports and recommendations to the judge when life-changing decisions are being made.

The first step is to attend an orientation session which will include a thorough overview of the role and requirements of becoming a CASA to one of the nearly 200 children on our waiting list.

We are hosting an exciting orientation event happening on Wednesday, November 9th, 6:15 pm - 8:00 p.m.

The event will take place the Sobrato Center on 1400 Parkmoor Ave, San Jose 95126. Please RSVP with me at amalia@cadvocates.org if you would like to attend.

You can have a huge impact on the life of a foster child.

"I will not let foster care statistics define me. I want a better life." -Donna, foster youth

About Child Advocates of Silicon Valley

Location:

509 Valley Way, Bldg 2, Milpitas, CA 95035, US

Mission Statement

To be there for every foster child in Silicon Valley who has experienced abuse, neglect and/or abandonment.

Description

We serve children aged birth to 21 years old who are placed in the Santa Clara County Dependency Court System (commonly referred to as foster care) for having experienced trauma in the form of abuse, neglect and/or abandonment. As an affiliate of the National Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) Association, we are responsible for operating the CASA program in Santa Clara County according to the national guidelines, which entails recruiting, training and supporting CASA Volunteers.

CASA Volunteers are appointed by a judge to be a mentor, advocate and a voice for a child in foster care. It can be a tough and demanding working with children in foster care but it is also very impactful. CASA Volunteers have the ability to help a child in foster care overcome the effects of having experienced trauma.

Change the life trajectory of a foster child. Sign up for an info session on our website to learn more.
